Watch Colin and Justin Explore Our Haliburton Cottage

On October 25, 2018, tune in to Cottage Life TV to watch reality stars and design wizards Colin and Justin explore our Haliburton cottage and its storied grounds on their new show.

For us, it’s been a long wait for the show to air. This past June, we got the call from the show’s producers, and, in true TV production fashion, there wasn’t much lead time.

“So,” they said. “Can we come next week?”

Availability at The Cooperage House in the summer season is hard to come by, but the stars aligned: we had just two nights open that following week. One day to clean; one day to film. And that’s how The Cooperage House began its moment in the spotlight.

Why The Cooperage House?

Great Canadian Cottages, unlike the duo’s popular makeover show Cabin Pressure, isn’t about rehabbing properties, but rather exploring already-distinctive homes in Cottage Country. Here’s Colin’s own words about the series and how they chose their featured cottages: “We wanted [to choose] homes that were purely based on pleasure and personality.”

We might be biased, but we think The Cooperage House was an excellent choice.

Our cottage on Eagle Lake has a fascinating history as the former grounds of a wine barrel factory—with many historic artefacts and structures remaining on the grounds. Inside the cottage, we carefully considered every design element, from the stone fireplace (with stones selected to mimic the Cooperage’s old stone wall that are still standing just outside) and cozy, cabin-chic bedrooms, to the farmhouse kitchen and concept art.

What Are Colin and Justin Like in “Real Life”?

As for Colin and Justin, we were quite surprised by how down-to-earth, engaged, and kind they were—they are basically exactly as they seem on their shows. Their love of design and unique spaces is entirely genuine, and they showed real interest in our cottage, even when the camera’s weren’t rolling.

They’re also the very definition of a power couple—a true team that works seamlessly together. We appreciated having the chance to get to know Colin and Justin on a personal level, and helping them get to know The Cooperage House, too.
